Piedmont Regional FFA Leadership Competitions
On Thursday May 10, four of our students participated in the Piedmont Regional FFA Leadership Competitions. Pendleton FFA members won first place in every event! Please congratulate the following students: Mandy Martin: Extemporaneous Public Speaking; Savannah Vickery: Prepared Public Speaking; Josh Pruitt: Creed Speaking; Eric Wilson: Upper Division Creed Speaking. They will compete for the state championship at the South Carolina State FFA Convention on June 7th at Clemson University.

Pendleton High Principalship Posted
Applications for the principalship at Pendleton High School are now being accepted through May 25, 2012. Candidates must have a valid S.C. secondary school principal certificate and have five years teaching experience and three years administrative experience. Candidates must demonstrate an understanding and have a vested commitment to leading the school in its pursuit of providing personalized learning and global opportunities for all students. Knights of Columbus present a grant to Mrs. Colber's Class!
Bob Brohm with the Knights of Columbus, Father Tierney Council No. 6884, presented a Columbus HOPE Foundation grant from the proceeds of the 2012 Operation HOPE fundraising drive. Pictured with the students in the class are Mr. Brohm, Mrs. Colber, and Mr. Lydic.
PHS Golf Team Wins State Championship!
Congratulations to Coach Tim Wood and golf team for winning the AA state championship yesterday in Columbia. It was thrilling to see our boys perform in a very close match as they sealed the win on the final hole of the 36 hole tournament. Carson Young won the state individual award, followed closely by Austin Langdale. The top two golfers in state AA golf wearing the Pendleton black and gold! Please take time to congratulate these fine young men as you see them in our community.

Important Notice from the School Nurse
If your child has medication in the nurse's office, it must be picked up by a parent no later than June 1. Medication cannot be stored in the office over the summer. Medications not picked up must be destroyed. Thank you for allowing me to meet the health needs of your child.

Emily Harper signs Cross Country Scholarship with SWU!
Emily Harper signed a Cross Country Scholarship with Southern Wesleyan University on Monday, May 14, in the PHS Media Center. Her family, coaches, fellow runners and friends were present to show their support for her. If you see Emily be sure to congratulate this deserving young lady!

FFA State Champions recognized by ASD4 Board of Trustees
The FFA State Champion Agronomy and Poultry teams were recognized at the Anderson School District 4 board meeting on Monday night.

PHS FFA competes in Oklahoma City
Four outstanding PHS FFA members competed at the National Land Judging Competition in Oklahoma City last week. Adam Willey, Josh Yeargin, Angel Woody and Weston Link represented South Carolina and tested their skill in classifying soil characteristics and applying land conservation techniques. They also had the opportunity to meet other students from across the nation. In conjunction with the competition, the students visited Stockyard City and ate at the famous Cattleman's Restaurant, toured the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge to see free roaming buffalo, longhorns and prairie dog towns, the Oklahoma City Memorial and the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum.Click here for more photos of the excellent educational and personal development opportunities that this trip provided our students.
ACSD4 Students Bring Home 100 Superior Medals!
ASD4 Band students in grades 6-12 participated in the SCBDA Solo and Ensemble Festival at Westside High School on Saturday, April 28, 2012. Students prepared individual solos, as well as ensembles including: duets, trios, quartets, and choirs; and performed their musical selections for a judge. Each judge critiqued the performers and assigned performers a rating from I-V, with “I” (Superior) being the highest rating. When the festival was over our ASD4 band students had won a total of 100 Superior Rating Medals! Students will be honored at our ASD4 Band Banquet on May 17, 2012 at Pendleton High School. Students are under the direction of: Mrs. Leah Durham, Mr. Robert Smith, and Ms. Maggie Walters.
PHS Baseball Wins District
PHS Baseball Wins DistrictThe Varsity baseball team defeated Andrew Jackson on Wednesday 3-2. With the win, the team clinched the District 4 Championship with a record of 3-0. This Saturday, the team will host Gilbert in the 1st Round of the Upper State Championship. Game time is 3:00 and this will be the 1st time they have hosted an Upper State Championship game. Please come out and support the Bulldogs.
On Monday, they will play at home in the next round at 7:00 against an opponent to be
determined.

Weston Link receives the Wallace F. Pate Scholarship
Congratulations to Weston W. Link for receiving this year's Wallace F. Pate Scholarship. The Pate scholarship is committed to providing South Carolina students a higher education in the natural resources area. It is awarded annually in cooperation with the South Carolina Harry Hampton Wildlife Memorial Fund and the South Carolina Governor's Cup Billfishing Series.
Weston will be attending Clemson in the Fall to major in Wildlife and Fisheries Biology.
